RAINY DAY KID IDEAS

Hey Friends,

April Showers are suppose to bring May flowers, but so far it’s only brought more rain.

It’s been so rainy here in Ontario lately and it’s not over, today is suppose to rain for the next 3 days (if not more, the way it’s been going). Well, with the weekend coming up and the rain not going to break, I thought I would go on Pinterest and get some ideas that the kids can do this weekend. With not being able to play outside, the fights will be more, the “I’m boredddd” is going to drive me up the wall, lol. I found some great ideas for the kids to do, I have 4 kids, my oldest is 14 yrs old (tomorrow), 10 year old, 6 year old, & a 5 year old. Now my teenage boy is not into these things anymore, but the other three are. I found fun games, learning activities, and more. If you would like to see what I have pinned you can check it out here. That my most current pins. I also have a Kids Craft board that you can check out for more ideas here.

I normally always have supplies on hand for crafts, being a mom of 4 I always stock up on craft items from Dollar Tree & Dollarama. I have even created a craft bin with things that the kids can go to themselves and grab to do. Of course the items in there are picked out by me as that bin is for when I am busy but the kids would like to do crafts the can. Nothing in there is things that they need me for. I really recommend everytime you go to the dollar store to pick up a few things so that way you always have stock of items. Another great thing to find at the dollar store that my kids love to do is puzzles . I hope that this post gave you some ideas that can work for you & your family on rainy days or just even on days where you can’t be outside.

If you have fun ideas, please comment below, I am always looking for new ideas.

DIY Office Decor Tray

Thought I would share a DIY I did for my office desk. This post is long over due.

It’s a simple one that did not take too much time. Below I share a picture of my Michael’s haul from last year. There you can see a wooden tray in plain wood colour. When I found it at Michael’s I knew it would be a perfect size for my desk. I also really like the little detail on the sides.

First, I painted the inside bottom & sides of the tray in a pink color, which is from Dollarama, but I already had it at home. It’s from the company Deco Art in what I believe is called PINK Fruitti in Acrylic Paint (I am sure on the Fruitti part of the name but not the Pink before it). I can not confirm the name as I let my girls use it to paint crafts and I no longer have the bottle and the picture I have I can not clearly see the name, so I apologize for that. I do have the number of the color if that would help maybe by doing a search, it’s DCA12. Once the the first coat of pink was dry, which took about half an hour,  I painted the outside part including the bottom in a Gold Metallic Paint which I bought from Michael’s . It’s from Craft Smart, Metallic Paint in the colour Gold/Oro. Then I let it dry for about half an hour as well and I painted the first coat lightly. Then went on to do the pink again. I did the Pink color about 3 times to get the perfect bright pink I was looking for. I let that dry for an hour and came back to it to do the Gold again. For the Gold I only had to do 2 coats. I left it over night to completely dry also to be safe as I painted the bottom of the tray and wanted to insure it was completely dry before placing it on my desk. I used a sponge like brush to paint the majority of the tray to really get the paint into the groves and so the wood would take the paint better. For the side design area of the tray I used a very fine brush to get into the space to insure it was all covered in the paint color.

Honestly this was an easy project and what took the longest was just waiting for the paint to dry. The tray already came ready to paint so I did not have to sand it down. I also did not have to prime it in order to paint the colors I decided.

Here’s another look.

This is how I use the tray on my desk.

I had this votive candle holder which I wanted to use as a decor piece instead of what it is for. It looks so pretty and holds pens, pencils, scissors, & some cute paper clips/holders. The plate at the bottom is a glass round dish that matches the votive candle holder which holds supplies instead for me and my needs. It’s cute and keeps all the little supplies together and neat. I love how the tray turned out and not only is it pretty and adds a touch of color to my desk it also has a use, organized and keeps most used items at close reach.

March Break 2016

Welcome March!

With that, soon enough March Break will be here and the kids are off for a week. I am a stay at home so I don’t have to worry about child care. This year we are not planning on going away on a trip or anything big. We have an up coming plan in the works (which I am not ready to share yet) once I can and things are confirmed I will of course be sharing. With that being said, I am starting to plan the week of March Break. I received a March Break News brochure from our Public Library with many programs/activities that the kids will enjoy. This week I will be picking some programs from that News letter and registering for those programs. I do know that the first Monday of March Break will be a fun pj day of doing nothing but hanging out and doing whatever the kids want. Also, not always do we have good weather for March Break so I am also turning to Pinterest for fun games, crafts, and learning ideas. You can check the ones I have pinned here if your interested. I am also going to plan with my sister-in-law and see about getting my niece and nephew over and doing some fun things with them. My kids love to be with my niece Emma and nephew Noah, even if we do nothing and stay home the kids always have fun.

On March Break week, St.Patrick’s Day will be on Thursday and I found some crafts for the kids to do from Pinterest. So, I will be preparing the crafts for St.Patrick’s Day on Wednesday by printing any instructions & collecting materials needed for any of it. That way after breakfast on Thursday we can get started on that.

Having fun doesn’t always have to cost lots of money, if you plan it out in advance and check your local library and recreation centres you can find a lot of things to do for a low cost or even free. Also, with Pinterest around you can gather fun ideas of crafts, indoor & outdoors games, learning fun & activities to do.

Another way I like to prepare for March Break is the week before, I plan that week to get all my errands done, any blog work done, even working ahead for blog posts for the upcoming week. All my house cleaning will be done by Thursday so that Friday can leave open to do any shopping (groceries & supplies for crafts) or unprepared things to get done. I do clean during March Break of course but it is not my main thing or focus. I will do my morning and my night routine and apart of my evening/night routine is laundry so I don’t fall behind.

How do you plan out your March Break? Do you plan things from Pinterest too? Let me know and comment below I always love to hear ideas.

Valentine’s Day

February is here and upcoming is Valentine’s Day. I do some decorating around our home. Mainly our family room, kitchen and in areas of the home we are in most, but nothing big. I mainly do it for the kids,  we pull out our Valentine’s decor (which isn’t much) out on February 1st so we can enjoy it for a bit as it will come and go fast. I have pinned some decor ideas, Diy’s, etc… for Valentine’s Day on Pinterest. I would like to try to make some of those decor/craft ideas to add to my Valentine’s home decor. Also, got some cute recipes.

The second week in February I like to start doing Valentine themed crafts with the girls (Tyler is 12 almost 13 yrs old and isn’t into this thing kind of things anymore, lol)

Of course I went on Pinterest and begin pinning ideas of crafts to do with the kids & game ideas. I like to start pinning in the middle of January to have some idea of what to do, also because it gives me the chance to go thru the craft supplies and make note if we need to buy any supplies. I like to do that supply shopping (if needed) the first week in February. This year I happened to be out doing some errands and 2 weeks before February and saw some cute things that I picked up and so I really don’t need much more. You can check out the haul picture on my Instagram.

On Valentine’s I like to put together little baggies of fun things for the kids to get. At times, it’s even been just Dollarama items that I find, just so when the kids wake up they have a baggie to open on the kitchen table. I normally shop for these items the first week of February when I go craft supply shopping. Also, on Valentine’s morning (even if it is a school day) I will make the kids a special breakfast. If Valentine’s Day lands during the week I will wake up the kids about 20mins-1/2 hr earlier so they have time to open their bags and enjoy their special breakfast. That avoids a mad rush to get ready and leave on time.

I also pinned some gift ideas, they had some great ones you can make yourself and that the kids could as well.

Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day? Do you have special traditions you do with your kids on Valentine’s Day or prior?

Pumpkin DIY

Thought I would share a DIY with you all. I went to Michaels during their fall sale and bought a few items at really great prices.

I wanted some pumkins to go with my fall decor for the bottom of my fireplace. This is a super easy DIY. The stickers are very easy to work with and apply. I first cleaned the pumkins with damp paper towel and then dried them with a microfibre dish cloth, to insure no dust etc was on them. I picked which sticker decor I wanted for each one and then got to it.

This is what I ended up with. How cute are they? I love them! I played around with the decor stickers for the little cream pumkin and the left over of that was added to the large pumkin so that it wasn’t just an I.

Everything used was bought from Michael’s. I really love Michael’s as my craft shopping place, they have everything you need in one store. I also love their store for other home decor items that are already done up. They always have a sale on something and if your item isn’t on sale they always have a coupon running.

Here is where they live in our home for the fall season & to my surprise Madison (3 1/2 yrs old) has left them alone, lol.

Do you have an easy Fall DIY you would like to share? I always love to see ideas and creations, comment below.

Due to my current computer issues these are unedited pictures and content is being typed from my wordpress app. Since it’s been awhile of me posting and still having computer issues I really wanted to post something for you all so please bare with me. Thanks

Easy DIY Plate Decor

BEFORE DIY PLATE

My mother recently had some parts of their home re-painted a different color and the plates she had on display no longer matched her walls. She search many places to find some but didn’t have any luck. She remembered how I am always up to some kind of diy and asked if I could do something for her. She provided me with two plates that are shown in the above picture. Of course I took on the job and went out to Michael’s and bought Gold Craftsmart Metallic Paint and the rest of supplies I had on hand already (paint brushes in different sizes).

Once things settled at home and the kids went to bed I search the net (google), found some ideas but nothing that hit me enough to do. As I was sitting at my desk looking at the plate I got the idea to paint the whole plate gold. It needed about 3 coats. Yes, it was a really late night, but I couldn’t sleep til the job was done. While waiting in between coats I worked on my own projects to help pass time. Once all coats were done and the paint was dry I took the top of a skinny paint brush to scratch out the gold and made my own design just by random selecting spots. It was a quick turn out. I took more time with certain parts as I didn’t want to mess it up.

I think it turned out nicely & my mom liked it so job done. The picture below shows the finished product.
